Residents of the Month - Shahla and Enrique Escobar |
|
Shahla and Enrique Escobar both grew up in Miami, Florida, residing only ten minutes from each other. Despite mutual family friends and living so close to one another, their paths did not cross until the two met in their medical school years.
With a Columbian mother and an Iranian father, Shahla, the eldest of four children, was raised in a diverse and multicultural atmosphere. She graduated from high school in Miami and went to college in New York City, where she knew she would be able to find a large and diverse community with a bounty of cultural arts and activities to enjoy. She returned to Florida to attend medical school in Tampa, just as Enrique was off to Gainesville to attend medical school.
Enrique’s parents are both Cuban. Since he was born twenty years after his sister, he enjoyed being raised as an only child, yet still had the benefit of having a sister. Enrique stayed in Miami to attend the University of Miami. His recreational time was spent working with computers/electronics and playing tennis. He quickly discovered he basked as a “techie.” |
