The primary teaching facility is Parkland Health and Hospital System.  Parkland is considered a leading trauma center and one of the finest public hospitals in the country.  This large and busy hospital provides a diversity of surgical cases.  Working at Parkland is challenging, yet fulfilling, with more than 25% of the cases designated as emergency cases.  Within the division of Obstetric Anesthesiology, of the more than 16,000 deliveries per year, 45% are categorized as high risk.  In addition to clinical services, the Obstetric Anesthesiology division is actively involved in research.  The Parkland Pain Management Service sees ambulatory and in-patient referrals from family practitioner and specialist colleagues.  A wide range of treatment options are offered, including specialist medication manipulations, physical interventions, and a multidisciplinary pain management program.  Additionally, the goals of an active Acute Pain Service (APS) include:  1) to improve pain management of hospitalized patients; 2) to educate residents in the techniques of acute pain management; and 3) to direct clinical research in pain management.  The APS also manages non-surgical pain as in severe trauma, multiple fractures, extensive burns, carcinomas, acute radiculopathies, chronic pancreatitis, sickle cell crisis and acute-on-chronic pain.  Ultimately, the APS will expand to include patients at other affiliated University hospitals.

Zale Lipshy University Hospital surgical services include neurological surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, orthopedics, urology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, gynecology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, general and oncologic surgery, breast services, and vascular surgery.  Surgeries involving head and neck cancers as well as bariatric cases provide an outstanding experience in managing the complicated airway.  Additionally, there are approximately 1,400 anesthetics performed each year for neurosurgical cases, including over 300 neurovascular cases.

St. Paul University Hospital supports a prominent heart and lung transplant program.  Over 1, 800 cardiothoracic and major vascular cases are performed annually, not only at St. Paul, but also at the VA North Texas Health Care System.  General anesthesia and obstetric anesthesia services are also provided.

The Eugene McDermott Center for Pain Management is a prominent endowed center at UT Southwestern and treats approximately 7,500 patients each year from a wide variety of age groups.  A diversity of pain syndromes are treated in this state of the art facility, which includes dedicated fluoroscopy, pulse radiofrequency, and an operating room.

The Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States and offers a rich and broad variety of social, cultural, and sporting events.  Winters are generally mild and outdoor opportunities for recreation abound.  D/FW International Airport and Love Field Airport allow for quick and easy travel to anywhere in the United States.  Dallas is many things -- an affordable place to live, a convenient place to learn, and a great place to have fun.  The medical center is located just north of downtown Dallas and is surrounded by a variety of neighborhoods, making it easily accessible to a number of suburban areas including Irving, Las Colinas, and Plano.

Candidates for all positions must have completed anesthesiology residency and be eligible for a Texas medical license.  Consideration for subspecialty positions would be given to candidates with demonstrated training and/or experience in the field.  Interested individuals should send a complete curriculum vitae and three letters of reference to:
